Today has been amazing! Hattie Newman and I have been commissioned by YCN to do a live piece of creative work for the launch of YCN LIVE, taking place at London's Village Underground (www.villageunderground.co.uk) next Wednesday 27th August.
In the spirit of 'LIVE' we have decided to bring a deceased local tree back to life for one night, inviting people to embellish and decorate hundreds of coloured paper leaves which we will attach to the trees branches, resurrecting it over the course of the evening!
Having been in touch with Hackney Borough Council's arbicultural department to find a suitable tree, we visited them today to trim the winner into shape for the event, with big help from the guys there - huge thanks to Ian Graham and the team for co-operating with us so nicely :)

Today has been extremely productive. Scores more tree packs have shot off into the postal system and I have been organising a great thing which I'll be doing for the YCN LIVE launch night a week today! More details soon...
The live piece will be a collaboration with illustrator Hattie Newman

As you can see, I more than earned my lunch today :)

Last week I did a big call out to see who would like to get involved in the World of YCN's forest project. The response was so wonderful that today I have been super-busy filling envelopes with tree-making essentials, namely green cardboard circles, for creative geniuses the world over to embellish!
If you have requested a pack then watch your letterbox for an imminent bundle of fun :)

Hello there, I'm Alex :)
YCN have kindly invited me to help them out with their new YCN book for the next few weeks. I'm also working on YCN LIVE, an incredible event taking the world by storm - myriad creative happenings all over the horizon!
Art Directed by Alex Bec and Will Hudson (together they are...HudsonBec!), Bryony Birkbeck and Kristina Grundberg are creating THE WORLD OF YCN, a 3D visual metaphor explaining what YCN is all about. This fantastic parallel cardboard dimension will feature hundreds of individually decorated trees, embellished by talented types from all over the shop.
If you would like us to send you a tree to decorate, drop me an email at alex@ycnonline.com!
Above is a quick model I knocked up to show you what we mean.
Over and out x
