comments welcome

We are due to launch Café Royal in February. If you are reading this you have either found your way here somehow or have been given a link. Either way, please read the following and tell anyone else that might be interested.
Café Royal will be a place to buy zines, artists\' books, clothing, hand made goods, art work and some special things from our junk store. We are based in the UK but will accept work and orders from all over the world. At the moment we are just online. We would love to open a \'real\' shop too one day but just for now we are here.
We\'d love to hear from you, and we\'d love you to submit your work for sale at Café Royal. Please have a read through the links to the left, they will tell you how to submit work. There are some sample pieces of work on the site already so you can see the format. At this stage all feedback is greatly received. If you have any comments, questions, or ideas please get in touch.
See you in February...
I\'ve got one, I bet you\'ve got one and now Café Royal has one. If you\'re on Myspace or Flickr please look us up. At the moment we\'re lonely with no friends, please befriend us before Christmas so we don\'t have to sit in front of the fire by ourselves. Here and here.

WAD MAG this month with my pic of Henrik Drescher, the seemingly-contemporary-post-modern-all-rounder.
Have a great New Year, where did Christmas go?

Hello hello,
I come with news and opportunities!
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS...
Artists that use text - somehow, somewhere.
Letters will be an exhibition at The Atkinson Art Gallery in Southport, UK, curated by Craig Atkinson [www.craigatkinson.co.uk].
The exhibition will be the visual arts component of the Sefton Festival of writing 2007 and will run from April 22nd -June 7th 2007. The Gallery space for the show is 1600cm x 730cm.
You are invited to submit work that uses the written word, or text somewhere, somehow. Whether you make paintings, books, zines, photographs, models or sketchbooks, or anything else . As long as there are links to letters, text, words, signs or symbols in your work, whether they are direct or indirect.
Submission is free. Artists will pay for transportation and should arrange their own insurance for the time their work is in transit. The gallery will insure the work for the duration of the exhibition. The gallery is secure with information assistants throughout.
In the first instance artists should submit work by email to craig@craigatkinson.co.uk. Files should be no larger than 1MB. A short description of the work, including title, date, medium and size should be included along with a very brief Bio / CV. Please also state how your work relates to / uses text / words etc. The deadline for initial email submissions is January 1st.
My new book, \'Social Club\', published by Cafe Royal, is at the printers and will be available from me, Amazon, Waterstones, Borders, The Fruit Market Gallery and a few other places from December 1st. The first 100 are signed and numbered, most of these have been reserved but I have a few left. If you\'d like one please use the \'order now\' button. The ISBN is being registered this week and will be 0-9554693-0-9.
Bye for now...

My new book's done, nearly! I'm just waiting for my ISBN numbers to arrive and then I can take it to print. It should be ready very soon. The book's called '€˜Social Club', it's A5 size, 150 pages and costs £12 plus shipping. The first 100 will be signed and numbered, if you would like one please let me know and I'll add your name to the list. Here's the cover, I'll post more soon.

Not design related, much anyway, but it'll have you gripped for days, so nice!

I got an email from Maxsem at Nog
yesterday, \'You\'re in The Times\'. Right, what\'s The Times? Surely not the paper? So I looked on The Times website and searched for \'Nog\', sure enough there\'s
me in the \'Oh you pretty things\' bit of T2! A huge surprise, I like that kind of surprise! So there\'s a bit about a piece of my work, a small pic and details of \'Today is a beautiful day\' at Nog.
I\'ve been asked to curate a show to run alongside the Festival of Writing next year. April - June and then November - January [08]. If you make books, zines, use words, text etc keep your eye out. I\'ll be putting together submission guidelines soon.

Today Is A Beautiful Day opened at Nog, Brick Lane on Tuesday. I think most of London were there. It's a good show, about 30 of us I think including Shrigley, Thinkmule, Teitsma, Yu, Me, etc etc!
While you're there it's worth going to trhe Scope fair at the Truman Brewery - best show in London! More info on my blog.....
Buenos

I just changed my blog a bit, comments welcome. Also I've been sucked into a pyramid type thing, see what you think, I reckon I'll make my money back at least. I'm going to document everything on my blog.
Cheerio

You are all invited to the preview of an exhibition at Nog Gallery in which I have some work.
'Today is a beautiful day' previews on October 10th 6-10pm. I might have some books and zines there too...

There\'s a little Biennial
on in Liverpool at the moment. I was shortlisted for the John
Moores Prize but Peter Blake, that\'s Sir, and Tracy Emin didn\'t like my
work enough for the final selection. No hard feelings, hmm. Anyway, there\'s
this Digital Show on too that\'s worth a look. Some good some bad, IMHO.
While I\'m here I should do a little shelf promo shun. If you have an interest
in the banal, as I do, then you\'ll prpobably like my blog
/ newsletters. It is updated / sent out whenever I do something inetersting
enough to talk about. Normally twice a year, three if I have a haircut.
Well I'm excited and I hope you are too, I just got a parcel from Ray Teitsma with a load of work and zines in it. There's one on my wall in the middle. Cool or what?

My desk, it grows. Soon when we buy a new house it will grow even more and take over the whole room.

On a slight tangent to design, and I know not whose this pic is but I have a feeling this bloke has trouble buying clothes.
