Made in YCN was launched in 2009 as part of London Design Festival. The project saw six practitioners create different objects for exclusive show and sale through YCN at 72 Rivington Street - our physical home. The six were Dominic Wilcox, Alex Hulme, Bryony Birkbeck, Keepsake, Markus Bergstrom and Merel Karhof.
The idea behind the project was to give designers the chance to create and market their work in a fashion that is financially fair. YCN will be continuing the project, and developing a new collection of exclusive items to be sold at 72 Rivington Street (and the supporting website) this Christmas. The collection will be launched in the space on the 1st December.
YCN are interested in hearing ideas for original objects to be included in the collection. The objects must only be available through YCN for December, and all profits will be split 50/50. Please contact Camilla on camilla@ycnonline.com with suggestions and questions.

Launched as part of London Design Festival, Made in YCN sees a group of creative practitioners produce new objects for exclusive show and sale at 72 Rivington Street, the physical home of YCN. The project sets out to bring together different disciplines, reflecting YCN's broader activities, and provide a physical and online space to market work in a fashion that is financially fair.

Dominic Wilcox is an ideas man, an artist who works within the area of the ‘everyday’. Everyday objects, environments, buildings, human interaction - no area of normality is out of reach. His work, places a spotlight on the banal, always adding a new, alternative perspective on the things we take for granted.

Merel Karhof and James Gilpin have been busy fixing the wind knitting machine securely on the roof top at 72 Rivington Street for some natural industry as part of the Made in YCN. We're very exicted to be launching our Made in YCN project to coincide with London Design Festival kicking off this Saturday (you can see our page in their whopping site here). Dominic Wilcox, Alex Hulme, Bryony Birkbeck, Merel Karhof, DesignMarketo and Keepsake have all created something new for exclusive show and sale at 72 Rivington Street. Shown above is a still from a nice little work in progress film sent to us today by Alex, which you can see here.
The project will mark the start of efforts by YCN to stimulate and support UK based designer-makers; providing a physical and online space to market new work in a fashion that is financially fair. The ground-floor at 72 Rivington Street will be open from 10am this Saturday, so do pop by to enjoy (and maybe even take home) something from a truly remarkable collection. All major credit cards are accepted!

As part of her contribution to the Made in YCN project, Bryony Birkbeck is toying with the idea of a range of unusual and ornate knobs and knockers. A work in progress image from Bryony is shown above; and more from all participants will be posted shortly.
Included will be a piece from Dominic Wilcox; the latest details of which have just been reported from an Italian beach.

Two recent graduates from Design for Communication at Chelsea College of Art and Design, came in to show us their projects which both were very physical and 3D orientated. Danielle made these typographic pieces in topiary, and Ben built new brass instruments in a workshop to encourage children to play brass.

Designer Alexander Hulme recently had a chat with us about potential products for Made in YCN. Below is one of his degree projects during his MA Design Products at RCA, Musical Tableware, a set of crockery which resonates a specific note when struck.

SooJin recently graduated from MA Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins; having worked previously in the fashion industry with printing, she has now pushed her work into designing objects and interiors. In her degree project A Continuous Chain, she explored the art and craft of knitting, something she applies to pieces from furniture to jewellery. Today we had a chat about exploring these ideas for Made in YCN in September.
