I was briefed to write and design a basic tutorial for a chosen design software aimed at beginners. Choosing Dreamweaver, a program that can be daunting at first, I aimed to create a tutorial that was approachable and simple to follow. From research I found that the main reason people didn’t give Dreamweaver a go was that they associated it with boring, tedious coding and difficult technical issues. These are the people I wanted to aim the guide at.

I chose a comic book style as it appears a lot more exciting than your average software guide and allows for lots of visual examples. I created the character Captain Dreamweaver to give the short booklet a quirky personality, who takes you through the basics of Dreamweaver step by step. The result is a unique comic-like tutorial booklet that is simple to follow and shows readers that Dreamweaver isn’t that scary.
I was asked by Bury Music Productions to come up with the album design for its annul album promoting the latest student music. The previous B.M.P album designs lacked character so I solved this by giving it a fun and quirky montage style.
Catalyst (www.gettyimages.com/catalyst) is an innovative new search tool from Getty Images that helps you search by suggesting different words to express an idea. I was briefed to design direct-mail that promoted Catalyst to creative professionals.

Using, ‘Catalyst helps you find your lost words’, as the insight, I designed an interactive booklet of six different photographic images that seemingly have no connection with each other.

It’s not until you use the included ‘Catalyst Pen’, which uses the same ink as ‘Magic Markers’ or ‘Spy Pens’, that you realize that each image is linked to the previous by building upon the same keywords. The pen’s ink reacts to the ink in the booklet to reveal the previously invisible descriptive keywords, hence, you’re finding lost words.

Everything is packaged in a box that conveys the qualities of the Catalyst search engine. The result is a unique interactive experience that is fun, memorable, and stands out from the competition.
The brief asked to portray what it meant to be British in this day and age. To do this I asked a variety of people in Nottingham (different ages, cultures, religions) to write what ‘Britishness’ meant to them down on postet notes, which I then arranged on Photoshop and InDesign to be presented on A2. Ideally this kind of design would be used as a billboard or interactive exhibition piece.
‘Chill Out’ is a marketing and design campaign encouraging students to switch their lights off when they go out. Created by marketing student Daniel Fleming and myself, the campaign educates students in a down-to-earth, fun & positive tone that encourages them to make one simple switch in their behavior. The designs stand out from the usual nagging nature of global warming campaigns and makes the most of materials, including the use of heat sensitive paper, therefore making it a truly interactive experience.
