In one way or another we are all looking for happiness. Some people even say that man's sole purpose for existence is to hunt down and capture this intangible and elusive treasure. In 2006 researchers at The University of Leicester concluded that Denmark is the happiest country in the world - this was good enough for me. In March 2008 I made the decision to visit happiness, and embarked upon a pilgrimage to find it. My experiences are presented in this book.
In 2007 the RSA and NESTA conceived a competition project called 'Engage!' encouraging social responsibility in young designers. The brief asked students to consider how they could use design to bring about positive change within a community and instigate a project of this nature. I won the RSA Design Directions Award for this project, in collaboration with Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. www.alexostrowski.com/iamhere.php
This booklet is an active response to the negative associations held by the majority of people in the UK regarding unsolicited telephone calls. Intended to re-open direct dialogue between citizens,Warm Calling provides a method to demonstrate a potentially positive intrusion of privacy. Volunteer Warm Callers require no formal training other than the advice offered in this booklet.
The Death of Style was released in January 2008, The Sequins' first LP. The concept for the packaging was to allude to the album title with a vacant, dead aesthetic, for which I sourced a shrink wrapping outfit prepared to conceal a small amount of real 3mm sequins beneath the shrink wrapping. The sequins scatter on opening and kill the effect of the cover.
